GOOD TO KNOW
• One-vehicle tour will be accompanied
by an English-speaking guide. For larger groups in several
vehicles, tours will be accompanied by a driver in each vehicle.
There is only one guide per tour group, usually in the first
vehicle, who provides relevant information and answers questions
at each stop.
• Lightweight, flexible luggage is preferable to heavy luggage.
• Be sure to pack warm clothing for your stay at the Ksar Ghilane
encampment.
• This program is based on 4 passengers per vehicle. A supplement
is charged when there are less than 4 passengers per vehicle.
• The accommodation in Tatouine is the best category available in
this stunning region.

DAILY ITINERARY
Day 1: Toronto – Tunis
Depart Canada for Tunis via Paris.
Day 2: Tunis – Hammamet
Upon arrival you will be greeted
by a local representative and transferred to your hotel in
Hammamet. D
Day 3: Hammamet – Tunis –
Carthage – Sidi Bou Saïd – Hammamet
Choose between a morning at
leisure or an excursion to Tunis, Carthage and Sidi Bou Saïd
(must be paid locally approx. 70 dinars per person, minimum
number of participants required). The excursion includes a
visit to the Medina of Tunis dating back to the 8th century, a
great opportunity to explore colourful souks and the Bardo
National Museum. Visit the archaeological site of Carthage and
Antonin’s thermal baths in the afternoon. Depart for the blue
and white village of Sidi Bou Saïd and taste mint tea at a
local café before returning to Hammamet. B/D
Day 4: Hammamet – El Jem –
Medenine – Tataouine
After breakfast depart for El Jem
to visit the Roman amphitheatre. Head for Medenine, then
toward Chenini for a visit of this Berber village. Continue
towards Tataouine for a tour of the city and markets. B/D
Day 5: Tataouine – Ksar Hadada – Matmata – Ksar Ghilane
Visit the famed Ksar Haddada,
where Star Wars was filmed, followed by a tour of Matmata
and a troglodyte dwelling. Then continue to Ksar Ghilane
and take an optional camel ride (must be paid locally,
approx. 20 dinars per person). Overnight at the
encampment. B/D
Day 6: Ksar Ghilane – Douz – Chott El Jerid – Tozeur
Depart for Douz, also known as
the “gateway to the Sahara”, once an important stop on the
trans-Saharan caravan routes. You will then visit the
village of Nouiel, set amongst gigantic sand dunes, and
continue towards the immense Chott El Jerid salt lake and
salt desert. Arrival in Tozeur. B/D

Day 7: Tozeur – Chebika –
Tamerza – Mides – Tozeur
The morning is at leisure with an
optional ride aboard the Lézard Rouge train (must be paid
locally, approx. 30 dinars per person, minimum number of
participants required) or optional horse-drawn carriage ride
at the oasis of Tozeur (must be paid locally, approx. 15
dinars per person, minimum number of participants required).
Spend the afternoon exploring the mountain oases at Chebika,
Tamerza and Mides on a 4x4. Return to your hotel. B/D
Day 8: Tozeur – Gafsa – Kairouan – Nabeul or Hammamet or
Port el-Kantaoui or Sousse
Spend the day travelling through
Gafsa and Kairouan, North Africa’s oldest holy city, on your
way to the resort area of the northeast coast. Visit
Arab-Muslim monuments and stop at Aghlabides’ Basins, built by
the Romans in the 9th century. Hotel checkin. B/D
Day 9: Nabeul or Hammamet
or Port el-Kantaoui or Sousse
At leisure to enjoy your
hotel’s amenities or do some last-minute shopping for
local handicrafts. Overnight at resort. B/D
Day 10: Nabeul or Hammamet
or Port el- Kantaoui or Sousse – Tunis – Toronto
Transfer to the airport for
your return flight via Paris. B
