DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 : Toronto – Hanoi
Depart from Toronto early in the morning for Hanoi via Hong Kong and the United States (check-in and boarding formalities on the night before).

Day 2 : Hanoi
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a local representative and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3 : Hanoi
Morning at leisure. Lunch, followed by an afternoon tour of the city’s colonial area, Lake of the Returned Sword, Temple of Literature, Museum of Ethnography, Ba Dinh Square (home to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum), Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts, the former presidential palace of Indochina’s Governor General and the One Pillar Pagoda. B/L/D

Day 4 : Hanoi – Halong Bay
Depart for Halong Bay and stop at ceramic factories in Dong Trieu. Embark on the Halong Sails boat-hotel and cruise Halong Bay. Enjoy beautiful scenery and a tasty seafood lunch on board, accompanied by a glass of white wine. The afternoon will be spent visiting islands and caves around the bay. Overnight on board. B/L/D

Day 5 : Halong Bay – Ninh Binh
In the morning, admire the rocky surroundings as you navigate Halong Bay. Disembark the boat-hotel and travel through the rice fields of the Red River Delta. B/L/D

Day 6 : Ninh Binh – Vinh
The day begins with ox-wagon and boat rides to Thunh Nang to admire the beautiful scenery offered by terrestrial Halong Bay. Visit the caves and temples of Bich Dong and transfer to Phat Diem to see a stunning Sino-Vietnamese cathedral. Head to Vinh. B/L/D

Day 7 : Vinh – Dong Hoi
Today travel south to explore the massive Phong Nha Cave by boat and on foot. Hotel check-in. B/L/D

Day 8 : Dong Hoi – Hue
Visit the Vinh Moc Tunnels, dug out by the resistant Vietnamese during the Vietnam War, and stop at the bridge of the 17th Parallel. Tour the Imperial Palace, inspired by the Forbidden City of Peking, and ride a rickshaw to the Dong Ba market, whose vendors wear conical hats. Enjoy an imperial dinner (costumes provided) and spend the next two nights in Hue. B/L/D

Day 9 : Hue
Hue was the imperial capital from 1802 to 1945. Take a dragon boat on the Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda. Visit the impressive tombs of Emperors Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Observe Tai Chi and calligraphy demonstrations at a Vietnamese martial arts centre, and stop at the “incense and conical hat village”. See the royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc and watch a water puppet show. B/L/D

Day 10 : Danang – Hoi An
Travel through the Ocean Cloud Pass (weather permitting) and the Non Nuoc stone carving village to Hoi An, where you will spend the next three nights. Visit the historical city of Hoi An and its Fujian shrine, Fuqing Temple, Japanese bridge, an ancient dwelling and a silkworm farm, followed by a traditional 45-minute massage. B/L/D

Day 11 : Hoi An
Begin the day with an eco boat ride along the river: meet local fishermen, cast fishing nets and explore the mangrove. Then visit a vegetable and flower plantation. Stroll through the market and then take an introductory Vietnamese cooking lesson. B/L/D

Day 12 : Hoi An
In the morning explore the ruins at My Son, ancient capital of the kingdom of Champa. The afternoon is at leisure for walking, shopping or a day at the Hoi An beach. B/L/D

Day 13 : Hoi An – Danang – Ho Chi Minh City – Can Tho
Transfer to the Danang airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Depart for the Mekong Delta and visit the Vinh Trang Pagoda and Cao Dai Temple in My Tho. Take a boat ride on the river, eat elephant ear fish for lunch on an island, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride and stop in an orchard to taste exotic fruits. Return to Ho Chi Minh City. Night at leisure in the market. B/L/D

Day 14 : Can Tho – Ho Chi Minh City
Enjoy breakfast aboard the “Mystic” on the way to the amazing floating market of Cai Rang. See how rice cakes are prepared and visit a factory in Nuoc Mam. Depart for Ho Chi Minh City and tour the markets and temples of Cholon’s Chinatown. B/L/D

Day 15 : Ho Chi Minh City
Visit a factory where lacquer objects are produced, followed by a tour of Ho Chi Minh City and its “Art Nouveau” town hall, the cathedral and the post office, whose metallic arched windows were designed by Gustave Eiffel. The afternoon is at leisure. B

Day 16 : Ho Chi Minh City – Toronto
Transfer to the airport for your return flight to Toronto via Hong Kong.
